Background

Wallenberg Centre of Molecular and Translational Medicine is a new center at the University of Gothenburg. The center is being built in cooperation with Region Västra Götaland and AstraZeneca. Close interaction between the partners is important to ensure that the results of basic research quickly lead to new therapies and ensures patients get the benefit.

Over ten new careers positions for young researchers will be added at the University of Gothenburg. The researchers will get very good conditions and will add to the successful research that already exists at the University of Gothenburg, AstraZeneca and Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

The investment covers SEK 620 million over a ten year period. The Wallenberg Foundation has previously decided to contribute 270 million, Västra Götaland 150 million, Astra Zeneca will contribute with time and resources comprising 40 million for the first four years (with a possible extension thereafter), while the University of Gothenburg enters 160 million.
