Karin Ekström, Senior researcher

Karin Ekström did her undergraduate and graduate training at the University of Gothenburg, earning a medicine master in pharmaceutical bioscience in 2004. Karin Ekström received her PhD at the University of Gothenburg in 2008 with the thesis "Exosomal Shuttle RNA" where she made major contributions establishing the functional mechanisms of exosomes in cell-cell communication.

Between 2009 and 2019 Karin Ekström worked as a post doc and researcher at the Department of Biomaterials at the University of Gothenburg studying EVs in the field of inflammation, regeneration and biomaterials.

Rossella Crescitelli, Senior researcher

Rossella Crescitelli did her undergraduate and graduate training at the University Eastern Piedmont “Amedeo Avogadro” in Italy, and received her PhD 2014 with the thesis " Extracellular vesicle analysis in erythroid ribosomal stress”.

She has then completed a post-doctoral visit at Jan Lötvalls laboratory at Gothenburg University focusing her research on the role of exosomes in cancer.

Dimitrios Katsarelias, Postdoc

Dimitrios Katsarelias is a senior consultant surgeon at the Department of Surgery at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. He has a focus on clinical research in malignant melanoma, especially isolated limb perfusion and advanced surgical techniques.

Jenny Heiman Ullmark, PhD student

Jenny Heiman Ullmark is a Consultant surgeon at the Department of Surgery at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. Her research focus on quality of life aspects of breast cancer, and she has recently finished the PhysSurg-B trial where 400 patients with breast cancer was randomized to physical exercise or not before and after breast cancer surgery.

Nushin Mirzaei, PhD student

Nushin Mirzaei is a Consultant surgeon at the Department of Surgery at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. Her research focus on surgical techniques for breast cancer, as well as developing a translational project using scaffolds from breast cancers testing the stromal effects on different breast cancer cell lines.

Lida Pistioli, PhD student

Lida Pistioli is a Senior consultant surgeon at the Department of Surgery at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. Her research focus on the effects of melatonin on breast cancer using both Swedish registries as well as window-of-opportunity trial designs.

Hafsteinn Petursson, PhD student

Hafsteinn Petursson is a Consultant surgeon at the Department of Surgery at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. Her research focus on the roles of exosomes in the process of breast cancer developing lymph node metastases.

Marina Modin

Marina Modin works as a research nurse. She has a background as a registered nurse specialized in Surgery and are also part-time working as research coordinator at SkaS county hospital.

Therese Bengtsson

Therese Bengtsson works as a clinical research coordinator. She has a background as a registered nurse at the department of Oncology, but now fully work as research coordinating with a special interest in regulatory aspects of clinical research.

Maria Magnusson

Maria Magnusson works as a clinical research nurse. She has a background as a registered nurse at both the department of Oncology and Surgery.
