Ka-Wei Tang Group

Ka-Wei is a resident physician in Clinical Microbiology with research time within Wallenberg Centre. He aims to identify novel targets for the treatment of Epstein-Barr virus associated malignancies. In particular, he is interested in studying viral components essential for tumour maintenance, and mutational landscapes during tumour development.

Characterization of patient tissues using multiple massive parallel sequencing techniques forms the basis for the translational studies in his group. Virus gene expression and patterns of acquired mutations are correlated to distorted cellular pathways in order to identify potential targets. These studies are complemented and combined with experiments using in vitro models as well as ex vivo malignant tissue for the confirmation of the targets biological significance.
